What should you expect from the interview day? Interviews are individualized*; not grouped. We want to get to know you! You will meet and spend some time with each of the current residents during clinic hours. This will give you a flavor of actual clinic experience. You will meet faculty during the formal interview. We will ask general questions.  We will also include a sample of how we teach in both clinic & conference settings. How should you prepare for the interview? Just be yourself .... * not more than two per day. Typical schedule: Arrive Hines VA Blind Rehabilitation Center at 8:00 am. Tour Sit in on low vision examination with the current resident. Interview with Dr. Joan Stelmack Travel to Jesse Brown VA Medical Center arriving approximately 1100 am. Tour Medical Center Portrait Photo Meet faculty & residents. Luncheon (provided) meeting with faculty member Formal interview with faculty Sit in on examinations with residents. Exit interview with Dr. Thomas Stelmack Directions The Jesse Brown VAMC is located at 820 S Damen Ave. Chicago. The eye clinic is located on the 5th floor of the Ogden Bldg. The MapQuest directions below will guide you to the hospital. There is a parking garage with entrances off of either Ogden Ave or Taylor St. You will be able to receive student parking rates ($2.00). Bring you ticket to the clinic. Public transportation is very readily available by both light rail (The "L") or bus. The former is preferable and both the Blue line (toward Forest Park) stopping at UIC Medical Center and Pink line stopping at Polk St will place you within 2-3 blocks of the main entrance. Walk south on Damen from the UIC stop or west from the Polk St station. Hines VA Hospital is located in Hines IL (western suburb). The MapQuest directions below will guide you to the main entrance off of Roosevelt Ave. As you enter passing the guard house you will immediately see a statue of a soldier. Behind the statue is a red brick building (#113). That is the Blind Rehabilitation Center. Park in the guest lot and announce yourself at the reception desk at the Blind Center. Public transportation is also readily available to Hines from the city (75 minutes). Take the Blue line all the way to Forest Park. From the station take the Pace bus #308 to the hospital building. The Blind Center is located to the left of this building. The reverse directions will bring you back to the city and Jesse Brown (UIC Medical Center stop).
