Our newest Ph.D. !

Dr. Joslin has just completed her Ph.D. in epidemiology studying the role of water distribution on acanthamoeba keratitis. Her work has already influenced the CDC. She will now look at other organisms as well as building on her current studies.

Having completed her resideny in 1998 she was appointed to the faculty at the University of Illinois Department of Ophthalmology. Funding from NEI (K grant) allowed her time to complete her studies in epidemiology.

Dr. Giese completed his residency in 1986. After a short time in the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University in Chicago, he moved to California and worked in the Jules Stein Eye Institute. He completed his Ph.D. in experimental pathology at UCLA in 1998. He currently on the faculty at the college of optometry at NOVA .

Debra A. Schaumberg, ScD, OD, MPH completed here residency in 1992. She then completed her MPH followed by ScD degrees at Johns Hopkins. She is currently an associate professor at the Brigham Womens Hospital Harvard Univeristy.

She is a very well respected member of ARVO where she chairs sections. Her research has made major impacts such as demonstrating associations with smoking and ARMD, impact of DES in women's health etc.

Gregory S. Wolfe, OD, MPH is currently an attending optometrist within the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson Arizona.  Dr. Wolfe received his doctor of optometry degree in 2001 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  Following graduation, he completed a residency in ocular disease and low vision rehabilitation at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center (Chicago West Side VAMC) and the Central Blind Rehabilitation Center at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.

 

After completion of his residency training, Dr. Wolfe joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Optometry at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary.  Additionally, Dr. Wolfe served as the Director of the University of Illinois Eye Center at Michael Reese Hospital for the past six years.  During this time, Dr. Wolfe earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health, Health Policy and Administration Division.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Wolfe has held numerous elected and appointed positions within the Vision Care Section of the American Public Health Association.  A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Wolfe is also active in the American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Association, and serves as a clinical examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
