What should you expect from the interview day?

Interviews are individualized, and a limited number of candidates are scheduled for each day.
We want to get to know you!

You will meet and spend some time with
each of the current residents during clinic hours.
This will give you a flavor of actual clinic experience.

You will meet faculty during the formal interview.
We will ask general questions.
We will also include a sample of how we teach
in both clinic & conference settings.

How should you prepare for the interview?
Just be yourself ....

Typical Schedule:

Arrive at Jesse Brown VAMC by 7:30 am

We drive the candidates to the
Hines VA Blind Rehabilitation Center arriving around 8:00 am

While at Hines VA, you will:

  • Tour the facility

  • Observe a low vision exam with the current resident

  • Interview with Dr. Peter Russo


Travel to Jesse Brown VA arriving approximately 11:00 am

 

While at Jesse Brown VA, you will:

  • Tour Medical Center

  • Meet faculty & residents

  • Lunch (provided) with an attending

  • Formal interview with attendings

  • Conversations with residents

  • Exit interview with Dr. Charles Kinnaird

Directions

The Jesse Brown VAMC is located at 820 S Damen Ave. Chicago.
The eye clinic is located on the 5th floor of the Ogden Bldg.

There is a paid parking garage with entrances on Ogden Ave or Taylor St. 


Public transportation is readily available both by train (The "L") or bus.

Both the blue line (Illinois Medical District stop) and pink line (Polk St stop) will place you within 3 blocks of the main entrance. Walk south on Damen from the blue station or west from the pink line station.
